We’re proud to be a participating provider of the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)—a federal initiative aimed at helping more Canadians access essential oral health services by reducing financial barriers.
What Does the CDCP Cover?
- Dental exams
- X-rays
- Teeth cleanings (scaling)
- Fluoride treatments
- Dental sealants
- Fillings (temporary and permanent)
- Root canal treatments
- Non-surgical periodontal care (gum disease management)
- Full and partial dentures (including repairs and relines)
- Some oral surgeries
Understanding Co-Payments and Coverage Levels
The amount covered under the CDCP depends on your family’s adjusted net income:
- Income under $70,000 – 100% of eligible CDCP fees covered.
- Income between $70,000–$79,999 – 60% of eligible CDCP fees covered.
- Income between $80,000–$89,999 – 40% of eligible CDCP fees covered.
How to Apply for the CDCP
Important Notes for CDCP Patients
Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) Dentist in Hamilton
Hamilton Family Dentistry is accepting patients with active Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) coverage. Our Hamilton dental team can help confirm your coverage and explain which recommended services may be eligible under the plan before treatment begins.
The CDCP is a federal program that helps eligible Canadian residents reduce the cost of oral health care. Applications for the 2026–2027 benefit period are currently open. Coverage is not the same as private dental insurance, and the amount paid depends on the service, CDCP established fees, your eligibility and adjusted family net income.
CDCP applications are open
Keep your coverage details up to date before you book dental care.
- Applications for the 2026–2027 CDCP benefit period are open.
- The 2026 renewal period closed on June 1, 2026. Members who missed renewal may submit a new application, but a gap in coverage can occur.
- The current CDCP benefit period ends June 30, 2027.
- Renewals for the 2027–2028 benefit period are expected to open in spring 2027.
- Confirm that your CDCP coverage is active before each dental appointment.
Who may qualify for the CDCP?
Applicants must meet the current Government of Canada eligibility requirements. In general, you must:
- Not have access to private dental insurance or dental coverage, subject to program rules and limited exceptions.
- Have filed your Canadian tax return for the required year; your spouse or common-law partner must also have filed, where applicable.
- Have adjusted family net income below $90,000.
- Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
Eligibility is determined by the Government of Canada, not by the dental office.
What dental services may be covered?
Depending on your eligibility, clinical needs, frequency limits and preauthorization requirements, the CDCP may help pay for eligible services such as:
Exams & prevention
Routine, specific and emergency exams; dental X-rays; professional cleaning and scaling; fluoride treatments; and sealants.
Restorative care
Permanent fillings, eligible root canal treatment and other endodontic services, tooth extractions and certain oral surgery services.
Dentures & sedation
Complete dentures, repairs, relines and rebases; certain partial dentures; and some sedation services when eligibility requirements are met.
How much does the CDCP pay?
The CDCP pays according to its own established fees. Your required co-payment is based on adjusted family net income.
| Adjusted family net income | CDCP portion* | Patient co-payment* |
|---|---|---|
| Under $70,000 | 100% | 0% |
| $70,000–$79,999 | 60% | 40% |
| $80,000–$89,999 | 40% | 60% |
*Percentages apply to eligible services at CDCP established fees. You may still have an amount to pay if the dental office fee is higher than the CDCP fee, a service is not covered, or other plan limitations apply.
What is preauthorization?
Some dental services require preauthorization before treatment. Your dental provider submits information to the CDCP for review before the service begins. Approval depends on CDCP clinical criteria, your oral health needs, program limitations and the supporting information submitted.
An approved preauthorization does not necessarily mean there will be no patient cost.
Care at Hamilton Family Dentistry
When booking, let our team know that you have CDCP coverage. Before treatment, we recommend that you:
- Make sure your CDCP coverage is active for the date of your appointment.
- Bring or have access to your CDCP member information.
- Ask our team to review the estimated CDCP contribution and any amount you may need to pay.
- If preauthorization is required, allow time for the CDCP decision before proceeding.
Patients cannot submit CDCP claims themselves for reimbursement after paying the full cost.

Yes. Hamilton Family Dentistry is accepting eligible patients with active CDCP coverage. Contact our office before your visit so we can help review your coverage.
Is CDCP dental care completely free?
Not always. Patients with adjusted family net income below $70,000 have a 0% co-payment on eligible services at CDCP established fees, but additional charges may still apply. Patients in higher eligible income ranges have a 40% or 60% co-payment on CDCP established fees.
Can I apply for the CDCP in 2026?
Yes. Applications for the 2026–2027 benefit period are open. Eligibility is determined by the Government of Canada.

If you had CDCP coverage for 2025–2026 and did not renew by June 1, 2026, you may submit a new application for 2026–2027. A gap in coverage can occur, and dental care received during a coverage gap is not reimbursed retroactively.
